With Raven's Call, Robert James Challenger
offers his third collection of stories that illustrate the value
of family, friendship and the lessons of nature. Similar in
concept to the simple fables that proved so popular with readers
of all ages in his two previous books (Eagle's Reflection, Orca's
Family), this collection uses the parable form, featuring the
observations of Grandmother and other family members to interpret
the actions of nature's creatures in a variety of circumstances.
Each of the 18 parables is enhanced by a new
graceful motif that reflects the strong influence of First Nations
art. Jim's simple, direct stories express a philosophy of respect
for our environment and understanding of all creeds, races,
and generations.
A communications professional for many years,
Jim is also an accomplished rock artist who originally developed
his animal images to carve in rounded stones collected from
tidewaters near his Metchosin, B.C. home. Jim's family includes
wife Joannie and daughters Kristi and Kari, who have inspired
his storytelling over the years.
