Galena Bay Odyssey finalist for BC Historical Federation Award 2023

On April 13, the British Columbia Historical Federation announced the finalists for the 2023 Historical Writing Awards, which included Galena Bay Odyssey: Reflections from a Hippie Homesteader by Ellen Schwartz.

BCHF’s annual historical writing competition recognizes authors who’ve made significant contributions to the historical literature of BC. Books are submitted by authors or publishers and judged by a readers panel. The winners will be announced during the awards gala taking place in Chilliwack on May 4, 2024 at 7pm.

The BC Lieutenant-Governor’s Medal for Historical Writing will be awarded together with $2,500 to the author whose book makes the most significant contribution to the historical literature of British Columbia. The second-place winner will receive $1,500 and third place, $500. One book will also be awarded the Community History Award, worth $500. Certificates of Honourable Mention may be awarded to other books as recommended by the judges. For more information about the awards and BCHF, visit bchistory.ca.
