kā-āciwīkicik / The Move finalist for Governor General’s Literary Award

kā-āciwīkicik / The Move

Canada Council for the Arts announced the Governor General’s Literary Awards finalists on October 12, 2022.

We are honoured to share that kā-āciwīkicik / The Move is one of the finalists for Young People’s Literature – Illustrated Books!

Rooted in the historical displacement and relocation of members of the Chemawawin First Nation from their ancestral homeland, kā-āciwīkicik / The Move is a bilingual story (Cree and English) of two Cree Elders adjusting to life in their new environment, written by Doris George and Don K. Philpot, and illustrated by Alyssa Koski.

The Governor General’s Literary Awards finalists were chosen by the Canada Council’s peer assessment committees, resulting in 70 books as “the best to have been published in Canada in 2022, across seven categories, in both English and French.” The 2022 winners will be announced on ggbooks.ca on November 16, 2022. Winners will receive a $25,000 prize and publishers receive $3,000 to promote the winning book.
